At Thrive, our aim is to create an environment where everyone feels empowered, supported and heard. You are encouraged to discuss your ambitions, your suggestions and your concerns. And one on one meeting is the best opportunity to accomplish this objective.

Every fortnight, every Thrive team member meets with their manager in a one on one meeting that lasts at least 30 minutes. It is a time dedicated solely to understanding and hearing from each team member on what they are excited or frustrated about, what is going well for them or what could be areas of improvement.

🗓️ Scheduling: These conversations are expected to be a recurring calendar event at the same time every fortnight. The schedule should be regular, not rigid. The meeting can be moved if another event is happening at the same time. However, the important thing is that the manager makes it a priority to ensure that the meeting happens. Trust as a factor is fundamental to any working relationship and these meetings are the easiest way to earn trust.

📄 Agenda: Agendas can vary widely for different one on ones. The team member is the ultimate controller of the agenda. A good one on one is a mix of present problems/resolutions and future goals/plans. It is a platform to give & receive feedback. Talk about what’s working well and why it’s particularly effective. Ask what you can be doing better and where the team can improve.

One-on-ones are a time for the team member to speak about whatever they want. Each meeting may focus on a different topic or could be a continuation of a previous conversation.

The following list provides general guidance on topics that can be covered:

📝 Follow-Ups: It’s useful to take notes during the meeting so that you can ask about how things have changed in the future. It’s also useful to take notes between meetings -- if you notice something that you’d like to talk about, a note will make sure you address it in your next one-on-one.
